Juglans nigra, a prized North American hardwood provides a rich, dark wood sought after by wood workers.  Black walnuts have a well-formed, straight trunk with a slender, oval crown that is somewhat open. Rich, sweet nut enclosed in a thick light green husk matures in late summer and is enjoyed by both wildlife and humans.
