Viburnum x rhytidophylloides 'Alleghany'

Leatherleaf Viburnum

'Alleghany' Viburnum has very dark green, leathery leaves that are semi-evergreen.  Much hardier than the species, it grows well at both extremes of its hardiness range.  Abundant creamy-white flowers appear in late May to early June.  Brilliant red fruit clusters in September and October.  Fruits ripen to a blue-black color and are a favorite of birds.
